The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 3 on Thursday (23 May) stating that the outbreak occured in Linzhi. The affected population comprises cattle.

Out of 207 susceptible animals, 51 cases were reported. All 207 animals were destroyed.

The source of the outbreaks has not yet been determined.

The OIE conducted enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and virus isolation tests at the Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, the OIE's reference laboratory. All tests confirmed the presence of the FMD virus (serotype A).

Several control measures have been applied in an effort to prevent further spread of the disease.
