In past years, farmers in drought conditions could access Exceptional Circumstances (EC) Assistance which provided payments and interest rate subsidies.

However, EC is now defunct and farmers are urging policy makers to fill the gap left, reports ABC Rural

Preparation is vital and the consensus amongst farmers is that knowledge sharing should be stepped-up to improve farm management.

The whole industry has been affected by the dry spell. Livestock hauliers have been overstretched and feedlots packed as cattle have been moved to forage in emergency situations.
