Cáceres to Receive Bluetongue Help
SPAIN – Ranchers in north Cáceres have been provided with vaccine packages worth a total of €750,000 from the Ministry of Agriculture as efforts to overcome Bluetongue virus are stepped up.

The region, which lies in the west of the country, shares a border with Portugal and remains one area where Bluetongue is yet to be eradicated.
Back in 2003, the government initiated a rigorous ‘compulsory’ vaccination programme. The decision was taken after serotypes 1,2,4 and 8 of the Bluetongue virus were found.
The very successful vaccination period ended in July 2011. The government has described the vaccine was ‘an effective’ weapon to achieve eradication.
The Ministry hope that the disease can be snuffed out in Cáceres leaving exports to grow and develop unhindered.
