Pakistan Accepts USDA Semen and Embryo Health Certificates
PAKISTAN - The Government of Pakistan has agreed to proposed USDA veterinary health certificates for export of bovine embryos and bovine semen to Pakistan.Pakistan is already importing bovine embryos
and semen from the United States. The acceptance of these USDA certificates last month will help to standardise the
trade between two countries ensuring the import of quality products, which in turn will help to increase the
exports of US embryo and semen to Pakistan.
Livestock and dairy is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Pakistan’s economy. The demand for
livestock products especially dairy products is rapidly rising and has led to development of a robust private
sector. The main focus of the private sector is improved productivity and industry is using various
approaches to raise the production level. The use of high quality embryo and semen is one of the approaches
being used and being relatively cost effective, the trend is likely to gain momentum with the passage of time.
The acceptance of USDA veterinary health certificates for export of bovine embryos and semen will not
only help the United States exporters in gaining better market access in the Pakistani market but will also
help to strengthen the dairy sector in Pakistan.
