Brazil Could Challenge US Fresh Beef Ban

27 August 2012

BRAZIL - Brazilian Minister of Agriculture, Mendes Ribeiro Filho has said that the Brazilian government is looking into the possibility of joining forces with the Argentineans, who have approached the World Trade Organisation (WTO) regarding restrictions against exports of fresh beef to the US.

Mr Ribeiro Filho said that the Brazilian government was watching the Argentinean situation very closely, pointing out the health status of Brazilian cattle is very similar to that of Argentina's, with a FMD free status with vaccination recognised by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
