Egypt Reports FMD Outbreaks

EGYPT - The Egyptian veterinary authorities have reported six outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in Dumyat, Marsa Matruh, Suhaj and As Suways.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received Follow-up Report No. 4 on 24 June 2012. According to the report, cattle, sheep and buffaloes have been affected by the outbreaks.

Out of 324 susceptible cattle, 23 cases were identified. Seven deaths were reported. No animals were destroyed and/or slaughtered.

The source of the outbreaks remain inconclusive.
