€1.4 Million Approved For Health Programmes

SPAIN - The Government has approved the distribution of €1.4 million from the CCAA to agricultural and livestock programmes in order to be used for state control and eradication of TSE's and other diseases of animals, the quality of plant varieties and certification of propagating material.

The Cabinet has approved the criteria for distribution and financial commitments resulting from the Sectoral Conference on Agriculture and Rural Development, 13 July, 2011, for a total of 1,426,780 lines of action for of agricultural and livestock programmes.

Specifically, for the state programmes for control and eradication of TSE's and other animal diseases, €1,304,000 have been distributed, including compensation for compulsory slaughter after the diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis, bovine brucellosis, brucellosis in sheep and goats, goat tuberculosis, salmonellosis, enzootic bovine leucosis, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE and scrapie) and diseases of pigs.

Also, the quality of plant varieties and certification of propagating material of €122,780 have been allocated for Aragon, Extremadura and Murcia and has been used as criteria to participate in national testing of plant varieties of those varieties submitted for registration.

These tests are required for marketing, to establish the necessary reference material application technology to plants, to know the quality of plant material available in Spain and to track the same supporting transparent market.

In addition, these trials are essential for plant variety registration in the Register of Commercial Varieties of Agricultural Plant Species and the renewal of the plant material used by farmers, which enables the increase in net farm income.
