IFA Wants Publication Of Nitrates Rule Changes
IRELAND - The Irish Farmers' Union (IFA) is calling for the immediate publication of changes to the nitrate regulations.

IFA President, John Bryan, has called on the Minister for Agriculture, Brendan Smith, to set out the changes, which have been agreed with Minister Gormley in advance of their meeting with the Commission on 29 September.
Mr Bryan said: "IFA has run a strong campaign over the last six months, demanding changes in calendar farming, the continuation of the nitrates derogation for the commercial dairy and livestock sectors, the extension of the phosphorus provision for the pig and poultry sectors and changes to winter ploughing and nitrogen application rates for cereal farmers.
"It is now time that the Government steps up and delivers real changes in the review, otherwise the delivery of the growth plans for the sector set out in the Government's Food Harvest 2020 strategy will be meaningless. It is now time for Minister Smith clearly set out the proposed changes in the review for nitrates regulations."
