Badger Trust Appeals Welsh Cull
UK - The Badger Trust has been granted leave to appeal against the High Court’s Judgement in their recent case with the Welsh Assembly Government over the cull of badgers as part of the bTB eradication strategy in Pembrokeshire.

The appeal is to be expedited and will be heard on 30 June. The Welsh Assembly Government has said that it will, in the meantime, continue with its preparatory work pending the outcome of the Appeal.
Stephen James, Deputy President of National Farmers' Union Cymru said: “It’s clear that the Badger Trust is trying to employ delaying tactics with a view to derailing the TB eradication strategy in Wales. I am pleased however that the Court of Appeal has recognised the importance and the urgency of this matter and has expedited the hearing to the end of this month and that the Minister for Rural Affairs, Elin Jones, has confirmed that the preparatory work which is now well advanced will continue.
“Whilst the Badger Trust contends that they have a strong case, in granting leave for Appeal, The Rt Hon. Lord Justice Elias indicated that the grounds of appeal were no more than “arguable”.
“I am confident in my own mind at appeal the High Court Judgement will be upheld and that the Welsh Assembly Government will be able to proceed with the badger cull that is an integral part of the eradication strategy and that all the additional burdens that have been placed on farms in the intensive action pilot area (IAPA) will not be in vain and compromised by a failure to deal with this insidious and cruel disease in the round.”
