With an upturn in beef predicted for 2010, Alltech’s Symposium offers the ideal forum for beef industry leaders to evaluate its direction and plan ahead for future growth.

As forecasted recently by the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), annual global meat production will have to more than double from 228 million tons currently to 468 million tons by 2050. This presents a challenge. How is the beef industry going to increase production to feed and meet this consumer demand in a sustainable and ethical manner? In addition, animal welfare and food safety issues have a profound impact on consumer attitudes towards meat.

Attendees will have the opportunity to liaise with other industry professionals to discuss these issues, and also the issue of animal health and nutrition, during a number of informative, beef-specific seminars, exploring the following topics:

  • JBS – A view from an industry leader of the beef market bouncing back.

  • How the Canadian beef industry bounced back from BSE: A lesson in crisis management – A case study in management and traceability

  • Securing the future of the feedlot – Bounce back to profitability? The impact of improving cattle health on overall profitability.

  • Planning for the long haul – Technology transfer to the feedlot. How the world’s number one feedlot integrated the latest technology.

Bouncing back for 2010 – Nutritional strategies for dealing with digestive stress.

  • The next five years: What direction for the beef industry – From healthy beef to food safety.

  • Branding Kentucky Beef – the story Alltech Angus, always natural, always local. Premium ingredients, premium beef, premium bottom line. The story of a profitable programme.
