Improving Feed Management Plans
US - Livestock nutritionists for all species can learn the basics of creating feed management plans for their clients at Purdue Extension's 2010 Feed Management Workshop on April 19 at the Grand Wayne Centre in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The workshop, scheduled for 1-5 pm, will be of particular interest to consulting nutritionists and agri-professionals who want to become certified feed management planners, said Tamilee Nennich, Purdue dairy nutrient management specialist.
"Participants can expect to learn to write a feed management plan as part of a comprehensive nutrient management plan," she said. "They will walk away with tools they can help their clients implement on the farm."
Ms Nennich said the workshop will not only focus on nutrition as it affects animal health and productivity, but also the affects it has on what the animal excretes and on manure management.
"The Feed Management Workshop is a little different because we will look not only at what goes into the animal but also what comes out," she said. "We want to focus on manure management and the way animal diets can become more environmentally friendly."
The workshop also will outline the process to become a certified feed manager, define the conditions under which a feed management plan is valuable and demonstrate the use of on-farm assessment tools when developing a feed management plan.
In addition, the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists (ARPAS) nutrient management exam will be available, and those who already are members can earn ARPAS credits.
