Red Meat Export Values Back In January

AUSTRALIA - The value of Australian beef and veal exports declined 17 per cent year-on-year during January, to A$196 million, as the combination of reduced beef supplies and high A$ impacted returns, reports Meat and Livestock Australia.

For beef, export returns during January were lower from three out of the four largest markets, with the US (A$33 million) back 41 per cent, Japan (A$85 million) 26 per cent and Indonesia (A$10 million) nine per cent. Korea was the only major market to buck the declining trend, with shipments for the month up 30 per cent from a very low January 2009 total, at A$30 million.
