Korean Cattle Slaughter Tumbles After Chuseok
KOREA - In September, total Korean cattle slaughter rose 74 per cent on August this year and 69 per cent on the same month last year in anticipation of increased beef demand for Chuseok.

After the celebration, cattle slaughter fell with 58 per cent in October on the previous month, and 29 per cent year-on-year, to 46,289 head according to Meat and Livestock Australia.
From January to October this year, Korean cattle slaughter increased 9.4 per cent (58,722 head) year-on-year, highlighting the solid demand for domestically produced beef, with the introduction of country of origin labelling and the local traceability system.
While Koreans consumed 8.4kg/head of beef during 2008 , pork consumption per capita remains by far the most popular meat at 19.4kg/head last year – boneless equivalent for both meats.
