AFBF Congratulates Ohio and Texas on Victories
US - Bob Stallman, President of the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF), yesterday issued a public statement regarding the ballot measure victories in Ohio and Texas.“Our congratulations go out to the Ohio and Texas Farm Bureaus this morning for the leadership roles they played in important and meaningful victories on ballot measures vital to the success of agriculture in both states. It’s clear that when voters have an opportunity to endorse straight-forward ballot language that supports traditional values and hard working farm and ranch families, they will do so overwhelmingly," Mr Stallman said.
According to Mr Stallman, members of Farm Bureau in Ohio worked hard in support of State Issue 2, a measure to establish the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board. This groundbreaking measure passed 64-36 per cent. "Voters made a solid statement that acknowledged the role farmers play in caring for farm animals and providing a safe and quality food supply in the Buckeye State," he said. It is evident that Ohio has blazed a bold new trail for other states to follow on the issue of livestock care and well-being. It is also clear that voters in Ohio know farmers and ranchers share their values regarding the care of farm animals.
“Farm Bureau members in Texas led a successful effort to support the rights of property owners with passage of Proposition 11, by approximately an 8-2 margin. The ability to productively use and manage private property is vital to all facets of agriculture, and clearly, Proposition 11 is an important citizen endorsement of property rights in that state and sets the stage for additional eminent domain reform in the Lone Star State," concluded Mr Stallman.
