Rural Woman of the Year Makes Industry Bridges
AUSTRALIA - Queensland's Rural Woman of the Year has started a project fostering partnerships between Indigenous cattle producers and the feedlot sector.Barb Madden is the co-owner of a feedlot north of Kingaroy, and was granted a $10,000 bursary after winning this year's Queensland Rural Woman of the Year award, reports ABC Rural.
According to the news association, she says the money has funded a pilot program called the Beef Industry Indigenous Alliance, which is providing training to Indigenous cattle producers from both the Indigenous Land Corporation and the Cherbourg region.
Mrs Madden says both parties now have cattle in the feedlot.
"We've actually brokered relationships between those two Indigenous beef producers, so there are so many measures of success, it's very difficult to pinpoint one in particular," she told ABC Rural.
