Epidemic Among Indian Cattle

INDIA - The bovine population of a village under Mahakalpada block here is under threat by a mysterious cattle disease.

As many as 32 buffaloes have perished since last one week in Bajrabahakuda village while several people are battling to save their buffaloes from the deadly disease.

Veterinary experts who rushed to the village yesterday suspect that the sick bovine species have come under the grip of suspected foot and mouth disease.

“Things have assumed epidemic proportion with air-borne viral disease spreading fast. Majority of buffaloes have got infected. Incidentally farmers have stayed away from rearing cows in the village,” said veterinary surgeons who examined the sick animals.
