AUSTRALIA - The US will urge China to halt its ban on US beef imports when officials from both nations meet this week via the US-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade.

China closed its market to US beef following the first detection of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in December 2003. While China conditionally agreed in April 2006 to open the market to US beef imports, the resumption of US product still has not take place.
