The move follows an inspection of beef handling methods in the regions of Berón de Astrada, Capital, Pavement, General Paz, Itati, Mbucuruyá, San Cosme and San Luis of the Palmar, according to the National Service of Health and Agro-alimentary Quality (Senasa).

The EU inspectors reported that health and sanitary restrictions that had been imposed on the departments because of concerns over foot and mouth disease were no longer necessary.

The restrictions had been imposed following the discovery of FMD in the region of San Luis del Palmar in Corrientes province in 2006.

In May, the World Animal Health Organisation (OIE) declared the area of Argentina north of the Negro river FMD free with vaccination and extended the area of FMD free status without vaccination to the region of Patagónica Norte B.
