“The future of the industry will involve much greater differentiation of beef in the area of eating quality to better serve and satisfy the consumer,” he said.

“These are all challenges the beef industry can actually benefit from as we move to deliver what our customers – both here in Australia and overseas – want to see.”

AgForce Cattle vice president Ian McCamley.

Mr McCamley said consumers worldwide had become increasingly aware and interested in the environment their food was produced in and were keen to know more about the nutritional credentials of their meals.

“These are all challenges the beef industry can actually benefit from as we move to deliver what our customers – both here in Australia and overseas – want to see.”

Mr McCamley said producers in Central Queensland had a particularly good opportunity to discuss this and other opportunities at a National Beef Industry Forum outside Rockhampton on November 21.

“This Meat & Livestock Australia event – organised with the input of local producers including AgForce Cattle members – will also cover issues such as the processing sector, international markets, attracting and retaining staff, improved pastures, genetics and the ‘nuts and bolts’ topics of beef production and other burning issues,” he said.

“AgForce Cattle strongly pushed for the open forum section to be included in the agenda because we have found it an invaluable tool in gauging the areas of interest of producers across the state. “Our AgForce Cattle members – who have been involved in organising both the overall forum and in particular this open session - are looking forward to hearing grass roots opinions, issues and concerns direct from producers.”

The National Beef Industry Forum will be held on Wednesday, November 21 at Paradise Lagoons, Rockhampton from 8.30am to 6pm. Visit www.agforceqld.org.au/cattleforum.asp for more information.
