Included in the package of measures announced by Cabinet Secretary Richard Lochhead in the Scottish Parliament today was £1million extra funding for Quality Meat Scotland to enhance the resilience of the red meat sector in the long term.

Donald Biggar said: "The news of increased Government funding is a welcome boost for the sector at this critical time. QMS will be seeking urgent talks with the main industry organisations and of course with the Scottish Goverment with a view to investing the extra funds in a way that can offer long term benefits for one of Scotland's major food production industries."
