Britain has a very high reputation for its breeding stock and genetics the world over and these continue to be highly sought after.

Rob Wills, Director of the British Livestock Genetics Consortium

The drive, supported by breeding and industry organisations in Britain, is part of an ongoing programme to promote the very valuable export trade in breeding stock and genetics from British cattle, sheep and pigs. The activities have also included a series of inward missions where potential buyers from 20 countries including Poland, Germany, Romania and Russia have already visited UK farms and livestock shows this year.

Breeders and breeding organisations have dipped deeply into their pockets to participate at various global trade events, funding has also come from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), the English Beef and Lamb Executive (EBLEX), the British Pig Executive (BPEX), Quality Meat Scotland (QMS), Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC) and the Livestock and Meat Commission of Northern Ireland (LMC).

British teams have recently exhibited at ExpoInter in Southern Brazil, Tech-Ovin in France and the National Ploughing Match in Eire, which was organised for the sector by the British Blue Society.

Rob Wills, Director of the British Livestock Genetics Consortium (BLG) will be leading the team to Madison, a cross-roads event for the global cattle breeding industry, not just dairy. The British booth will be #158-162 at Arena level 2 in the Coliseum. He said: "Britain has a very high reputation for its breeding stock and genetics the world over and these continue to be highly sought after. We hope that the current export restrictions will be short so we can meet the demand."

MLC Export Manager Jean-Pierre Garnier said: "This year the Polish show is of particular importance. Following last year’s major presence, this year we have been awarded partner country status with a premier location at the show. This is important because Poland is expanding its livestock sector and is currently one of the largest markets for breeding stock and genetics in Europe. "The autumn programme provides a platform for more than 100 British breeders, breeding societies, breeding companies and specialist exporters and into the heart of their export markets."
