As part of the Agency’s commitment to improve food labelling for consumers, it has today started a consultation exercise on revised guidance for food businesses on 'Country of Origin' labelling.

Country of Origin information tells consumers where the food they are buying comes from, helps avoid misleading labelling for certain food products and helps consumers make informed decisions about what they buy.

The draft guidance published today is an update of guidance published in 2002. The new version includes updated legal information and further advice on how to comply with rules, along with best practice guidance for food businesses, including manufacturers and retailers.

The Agency is inviting views and comments on the proposed revisions. These responses are required by 13 December 2007.
