Pressure Maintained on Brazilian Beef

UK - The campaign against Brazilian beef imports is continuing and MEP’s are now set to hold a joint press conference in Brussels highlighting their opposition to the current situation.

The UFU has recently raised this directly with Neil Parish MEP, Chairman of the EU Agriculture Committee, and the UFU and Irish Farmers’ Association highlighted the issue publicly during the recent foot and mouth outbreak.

Meanwhile the EU Commission has announced an extra FVO mission to Brazil.

MEP’s have co-sponsored a written declaration in the European Parliament calling for a ban.

There has been no decline in the amount of Brazilian beef imported by the EU since the regional Brazilian ban was imposed.

The US, South Korea, Australia and Japan currently ban all Brazilian Beef products.

A Written Declaration calling for a ban on Brazilian Beef imports to the EU led by Alyn Smith MEP with Mairead McGuinness, Neil Parish, James Nicholson and Jill Evans is being launched in Strasbourg.
