CANADA - Canadian Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz says he hopes a U.S. appeals court decision will finally bring an end to legal action over Canadian cattle exports.

The court ruled Tuesday that federal regulators were right to lift a temporary ban on Canadian cattle imports two years ago. The ban was put in place after a case of mad cow disease was discovered in Alberta.

A group of American cattle ranchers, known as R-CALF, have repeatedly challenged the decision to lift the ban through several courts, and have launched a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Ritz says Canada has taken strict measures to eradicate mad cow disease from the North American herd.
