Saudi Arabia Search For Jewels In The Irish Beef Market
IRELAND - The Minister for Agriculture and Food, Mary Coughlan T.D., today announced that a team of experts from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will visit Ireland to inspect our food safety and animal health controls with a view to re-opening the Saudi beef market.

A delegation consisting of three officials from the Saudi Ministry of Commerce and Industry along with one from the Ministry of Agriculture will arrive in Ireland on Sunday 17 June for a weeklong visit. This follows the successful trade mission to Saudi Arabia and UAE, led by An Taoiseach earlier this year in which the Minister participated and the seventh session of the Ireland - Saudi Arabia Joint Commission on Economic and Technical Co-operation held in May.
Welcoming the visit the Minister stated that the discussions she had in Saudi Arabia on Irish food exports in general and beef exports in particular were “very positive”. The visit by Saudi officials will, she continued, “facilitate a clearer understanding of our high standards and controls in food safety and animal health”. The Minister hoped the visit “will lead to the early re-opening of the Saudi market for Irish beef”.
The visit will also provide an opportunity to explore areas of mutual cooperation in the fields of veterinary and agricultural training, laboratory development and procedures, vaccine development, animal husbandry and fisheries.
