British beef is clear for export

IRELAND - Ten years after the height of the mad cow crisis, British beef was finally cleared for export to Ireland and the rest of the EU last night. EU veterinary experts first imposed the ban when BSE was discovered in the British national herd, leading to the death of 150 people and the slaughter of thousands of cattle. Bord Bia said they did not expect the move would displace Irish exports, as British farmers had scaled back production in recent years.
