NORTH YORKSHIRE - A good showing of Salers bulls met with strong interest at Perth last Wednesday (7th Feb). The sale topper at 3200 guineas was Rigel Jethro Poll, a 770 kg, 21 month son of Rigel Othello Poll ET, from Rigel Pedigree, Yarm, North Yorkshire.

Rigel Jethro Poll

As the only polled bull forward, Rigel Jethro had attracted interest from a number of potential buyers from Scotland and England. The successful bidder was Mr. D Thow from Lochearnhead, who had previously purchased Rigel Hyacinthus, a heifer by Bonus, with a polled bull calf at foot by Rigel Julius Poll at the Salers Premier Sale in November.

The Salers Champion, Seawell Accumulator, a 23 month old son of President, from Messrs Donger, Northants, was sold for 2800 gns to the Crofters Commission. The Reserve Champion, Ballywillian Emperor, by Ronaldo, from Mr Robert Millar, Northern Ireland made 2000 gns, also to the Crofters Commission.

4th placed Rigel Berkley, a 20 month old Sagitaire son sold for 1800 gns to Mr. Ross Thompson from Blackcastle, Dunbar to breed replacement heifers for a large commercial suckler herd.

With six out of seven bulls sold, an average of £2275, and with plenty of interest in the Salers cattle lines over the three days before the sale, it all adds up to continued growth in demand for Salers bulls.
