AUSTRALIA - While sales in the south of the state continue to draw numbers of offloaded cattle due to destocking, North Queensland’s beef industry has played a strong shot forward.

Despite drought tending to hold things back down south, the much wetter Northern centres are looking to gear up as soon as possible.

Last Saturday, the Malanda Showgrounds continued the tradition of weekly sales during the major saleyards off-season.

The sale attracted a crowd of about 300 people and the weather, which looked threatening before the sale, held off while the sun made an appearance during the latter stages.

The numbers of cattle and attendees were testament to the strength of the Northern market.
