Ohio Feedlot this month withdrew state applications it submitted this summer to expand capacity of its feedlot near South Charleston from 9,800 head of cattle to 20,200. Now it's seeking permission from the state Department of Agriculture and the state Environmental Protection Agency to nearly triple in size to 29,200 cattle.

The feedlot is located near the headwaters of the Little Miami River, which flows through Clark, Greene and Warren counties on its way to the Ohio River. But state environmental officials expressed confidence in the farm's ability to handle the additional animals.
