Tesco claimed this week that reports of the company’s Ruthin store selling fresh Brazilian beef to shoppers were unfounded.

The move comes after Clwyd West Assembly candidate Phil Edwards alleged the store was misleading the public with its fresh meat policy after investigating the sale of produce in the supermarket.

Mr Edwards contacted Ruthin supermarkets to ask them to remove any Brazilian beef from their shelves, following the publication of an EU report highlighting potential risks to human health.

He claimed Tesco’s reply reported that the store did not stock any form of Brazilian beef here or in its other supermarkets across the UK.
