Scientists examine possibility of BSE-resistant cattle
US - American scientists say they are hopeful of cloning cattle resistant to bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) or mad cow disease in the next 10 years. Work has begun to identify and remove a protein found in the nervous and immune systems of animals, which is essential to the development of diseases such as mad cow and scabies.Dr Will Eyestone, from the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, says if the protein can be removed, they would be left with an animal incapable of developing mad cow disease.
