U.S. ready to expand BSE tests by targeting older animals

WASHINGTON — U.S. Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman voiced readiness Tuesday to strengthen cattle testing for mad cow disease by mainly targeting animals aged 30 months or older. "We will be looking...at the likelihood of testing particularly older, healthy animals that would be presented for slaughter," Veneman told reporters after attending a meeting with state governors.
