Welsh Blacks set store in sales North and South

UK - Welsh Black Cattle devotees had not one but two sales to choose from this week, as pedigree cattle went under the hammer at store sales in Llandovery and Dolgellau.

The first sale was a sell out at Llandovery Market on Wednesday (25/10/06) where 30 vendors entered 136 pedigree Welsh Black Store Cattle.

Making his debut and selling his first store steer was 12 year-old Carwyn Lewis, Gwarcoedeinion, Llanwenog, Llanybydder. He sold the 19 month-old steer weighing 570kgs for £600 to Oriel Jones, Macwith Castle , Llanfihangel-ar-Arth near Pencader.

Mr Jones was one of 13 buyers at the sale which was sponsored by Richard Lawrence of Tithebarn. The auctioneers were Clee, Tomkinson & Francis, Llandovery.

A 29 month-old 710kg heifer took the Best Heifer prize in the pre-sale show, selling for £740. Sold by Messrs Evans Gelli Farm, Llanycrwys, Llanwrda, the heifer was bought by Mr & Mrs J&P Owens, Woodhouse, Shobdon, Leominster .

The Best Steer prize went to a 28 month-old which sold for £715. Again sold by Messrs Evans, the 660kg steer was bought by Oriel Jones, Llanfihangel-ar-Arth, Pencader.

The Best Pair of Steers were sold for £695 by Messrs Evans. The 24 and 27 month-old steers weighing 640kgs were bought by Messrs Owens, Shobdon, Leominster .

Four steers aged 17 months and weighing 535kgs were sold by Messrs JG & DC Davies, Cwmbyr, Lledrod, Aberystwyth for £550 to Hubert Gwynne, Coedmawr, Manordeilo, Llandeilo.

Two steers aged 14 and 15 months and weighing 420kgs took the Junior Steer prize and were sold by Jones Lewis a'i Gwmni, Rhyd-y-God isa, Pont Creuddyn, Llanbed and bought by Oriel Jones.
