USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service, Livestock and Seed Program approved two image-based instruments for determining beef carcass marbling scores. One of the instruments, the Computer Vision System, was developed by NMA member RMS Research Management Systems. The other, VBS2000, was developed by E+V Technology.

Although the systems have been approved, using them for official grading is contingent upon users having written approval by the LS Program to verify the instruments' accuracy. For more information, contact Martin O'Connor at [email protected] or call (202) 720-4486.
