AUSTRALIA - Reports from Taiwan indicate that Australian chilled beef has been in short supply at wholesale in recent weeks.

Ongoing strong demand for Australian beef in other key markets such as Korea and Japan continues to pull available product away from the price sensitive Taiwanese market.

In addition, the US has been very competitive since its return to the Taiwan market in January this year. Currently, wholesale prices of US chilled intercostals (NT$200 or A$8) and shin/shank (NT$200 or A$8) have been lower than Australian chilled intercostals (NT$250 or A$10) and shin/shank (NT$240 or A$9.60). However, this price advantage may be short lived with the return of US beef to Korea.
