Japan prices hold firm

AUSTRALIA - Beef exporters to Japan reported another steady week, as tight supplies of suitable grassfed cattle and strong competition from other markets impacted on export prices.

Grassfed fullset prices lifted 3US¢/lb on last week, to 217US¢/lb, while shortfed fullsets were unchanged at 237US¢/lb.

Wholesale prices for imported Australian beef remained steady, to slightly stronger this week, with the exception of tongues which fell 50 yen/kg, to 1,675 yen/kg. Chilled grassfed fullset prices rose 5 yen/kg, to 875 yen/kg, while shortfed fullset prices jumped 20 yen/kg, to 1,005 yen/kg.
