IFA president Padraig Walshe said his organisation was growing increasingly frustrated with the Food and Safety Authority’s policing of the situation and the lack of compliance with the legislation.

He warned that the IFA would start to name restaurants that failed to advertise the origins of their beef.

Defending the authority, its CEO John O’Brien said that the inspection of restaurants to see if they complied with the regulations was part of the work of the 400 environmental health officers around the country.
