The yearbook provides an overview of the facts and figures from the beef and sheep meat sectors during 2017.

Although sterling continued to remain weak, the beef market saw higher import volumes, which were up 4 per cent on 2016 to 442,000 tonnes with exports down by 2 per cent.

Together, these are a testament to the size and importance of the UK domestic market, where year-on-year demand grew by approximately 1 per cent in 2017.

The sheep market on the other hand could be characterised by production growth, up 3 per cent on 2016 and lower imports, which fell by 13 per cent to 95,000 tonnes.

Exports of sheep meat totalled 94,000 tonnes, up 15 per cent on the previous year.
