Australian Livestock Levy Board Reviewed
AUSTRALIA - Australian beef farmers have called for a review into the Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) research and development to be made publically available.

The Australian Beef Association (ABA) chairman, John Niven has called for the Cattle Council to release an independent report, commissioned by the MLA on the systems and processes for research and development to the public.
ABA said it is extremely concerned that a veil of secrecy is a direct contrast to past MLA commissioned reports, which were quickly released to the public.
The report is said to highlight, what the ABA has referred to as inadequacies, in MLAs management of the annual budget of $80 million for R & D, of which 50% comes from government funds.
It was commented on that there is a lack of MLA performance management systems or KPIs. ABA stated that a formal process to allow input from stakeholders should be put in place.
According to Beef Central there is likelihood of an R & D shakeup following the report.
The report alluded to 11 recommendations, including suggesting the MLA needs to take a stronger leadership role in national livestock R & D strategies, to adopt a longer-term investment process.
