AUSTRALIA - Numbers were up at Dalby with the supply area starting to dry out. Overall quality was good with most buyers operating, according to Meat and Livestock Australia.

The MLA report for teh daily livestock outlook says that lightweight yearling steers to feeder and restock were around firm averaging between 212¢ and 225¢/kg. Heavyweight yearling steers to feed eased 4¢ to 191¢/kg. Lightweight yearling heifers to the trade were 13¢ cheaper at 195¢ as the heavyweights eased 4¢ to 179¢/kg. Heavyweight grown steers and bullocks were firm around 183¢ as medium cows averaged 139¢/kg.
The yarding was larger at Casino after rain last week. Lightweight vealer steers back to the paddock averaged 235¢ as the medium weights to the trade made around 221¢/kg. Light and medium heifer vealers to process were 2¢ to 3¢ dearer averaging between 225¢ and 232¢/kg. Medium cows sold to varying demand, the D2’s averaged 122¢ and D3’s made around 143¢/kg.
Supply was back slightly at Warrnambool, Heavyweight vealer steers eased 5¢ to 200¢/kg. Medium yearling heifers to restock averaged 162¢ as the heavyweights averaged 184¢/kg. Heavyweight grown steers averaged 2¢ dearer at 176¢ and bullocks made around 171¢/kg. Heavyweight dairy cows averaged 3¢ lower around 136¢ as the beef cows made around 145¢/kg.
The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) lifted 3¢ compared to last week to settle at 366.75¢/kg cwt. The trade steer indicator dropped 6¢ to 189¢ and feeder steers were 1¢ lower at 195¢/kg lwt. Japan ox was 1¢ lower at 180¢ and the medium cow indicator was down 2¢ at 139¢/kg lwt.
Numbers increased at CTLX and quality improved as more new season lambs come into the market. Light store lambs to returning to the paddock were $3 cheaper on $85/head. Young trade weight pens were firm, ranging from $110 to $125/head. Heavy Merino wethers to slaughter lost $5, to mainly sell at $88/head or 392¢/kg cwt.
Lamb supply remained limited at Hamilton although young lamb numbers are increasing. Trade lambs were firm, mostly selling from $105 to $107/head and averaged 450¢/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes to the trade lifted $2/head and averaged 306¢/kg cwt.
After Wednesday’s market the eastern states restocker lamb indicator was 35¢ above the same day last week on 540¢/kg cwt. Merino lambs were 7¢ stronger on 413¢, while light lambs lifted 21¢ - to 472¢/kg cwt. Trade lamb prices were up 6¢ - to 483¢ and heavy lamb values were firm on 466¢/kg cwt. Mutton finished firm at 358¢/kg cwt.
