“It is absolutely critical that much thought go into selecting and developing herd bulls, as well as keeping them in good breeding condition,” Mr Dukes said. “Equally important is the understanding of diseases and other factors that can affect the fertility of your herd bulls.”

An “Improving Beef Reproductive Efficiency: Bull Management” workshop will be held 24 March at the Miami Community Centre to provide a comprehensive look at managing bulls for improved reproductive efficiency, he said.

The programme will start with registration at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch. The programme will begin at 12:30 pm and end at 4 pm.

Programme topics will be: Selecting and Developing Herd Bulls, Nutritional Requirements of Bulls, Trichomoniasis and Other Health Concerns, Factors Affecting Bull Fertility, and Conducting Breeding Soundness Exams.

Two general Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education credits will be offered, and lunch will be included. Those planning to attend should RSVP to 806-868-3191 on or before 19 March, Mr Dukes said.
