NFU Scotland Beef Tasting and Farm Walk
US - NFU Scotland members, non-members and local young farmers, are to take part in a beef tasting and farm walk event on Wednesday 30 July. The event, entitled Tasty, Tender and Tempting is being held by kind permission of Tom and Steven Mitchell at at Clentrie Farm, Auchtertool, Kirkcaldy, Fife. Tom farms pigs, the meat from which he sells through his Puddledub Pork and Fifeshire Bacon business and Steve runs Puddledub Buffalo and Auchtertool Angus which he also markets and sells himself.
The event will involve a farm walk around Clentrie, including viewing of the 130 water buffalo cows and Steve’s new Aberdeen Angus herd, and then a tasting session of four breeds of various beef and water buffalo. The tasting session will be judged by Jim McLaren, NFU Scotland President, a representative from Henderson Butchers, Glenrothes and a representative from Quality Meat Scotland.
Jim McLaren will then address the group and outline what NFU Scotland is currently doing on behalf of its membership. Finally, there will be a BBQ of Clentrie produced meat for all attendees.
Neil Follon, NFU Scotland Group Secretary, said: “This event is designed to be a social occasion for farmers from the area to come along, meet up and learn a little more about water buffalo and Aberdeen Angus production. It will also be a great chance for people to taste some of the product themselves!
“We also hope that the event can update both members and non-members on the numerous activities of NFU Scotland and outline the benefits of membership.
“The ‘credit crunch’ is biting everyone, including farmers, and now, more than ever, it is crucial that farming’s Union is fighting for its members. We are certainly doing that but in order to do so even more effectively, we need the backing of every farmer from the region.”
