International Trade Highlights: According to data from the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), as reported by the USDA Livestock, Poultry and Grain Market News (LPGMN), during 2015, U.S. imports of feeder cattle from Canada totaled 287,556 head. This was 34.9 percent lower than the previous year. Imports of slaughter steers and heifers from Canada equaled 212,105 head, which was 45.0 percent lower than a year ago. During 2015, slaughter cow and bull imports were 20.6 percent less than 2014, totaling 291,318 head. Imports of feeder pigs from Canada during 2015 equaled 4,226,930 head, 8.9 percent more than a year ago. Slaughter hog imports were up 34.2 percent over the previous year, totaling 1,123,830 head. Additionally, according to recent data from USDA LPGMN, during 2015, the U.S. imported 1,131,210 head of feeder cattle from Mexico.
