Cattle FMD Vaccine Programme Still to Treat 70,000 Animals

13 June 2013

VENEZUELA – With five days to go before foot and mouth disease vaccinations draw to a close, almost 73,000 cattle remain yet to be vaccinated to reach targets for the state of Zulia.

The programme, started on 15 April, has treated 322,815 cattle with FMD vaccinations, Guillermo Quevedo, the regional director for the National Institute of Comprehensive Agricultural Health (ISHAI) announced on Monday.

A rabies plan has been incorporated during the FMD vaccination campaign which itself has reached 219,780 animals.

Furthermore, tick control efforts have been made to prevent the spread of illnesses between farm animals and humans, under the official policy name of the ‘Integrated Tick Control Programme’.
