Chile-China Trade Agreements Signed

CHILE/CHINA - The President of Chile Sebastián Piñera and the Chinese premier, Wen Jiabao, have signed agreements that will allow entry into the Asian market for beef, sheep and goat meat products.

President Piñera said China has now become Chile's main trading partner,worth $30 billion dollarslast year - almost three times the trade of three years ago.

The president also stressed that in the 11 agreements signed, six are related to forestry and agriculture.

"Chile already has an agricultural experimental farm in China, and with this agreement, China will also have a farm in our nation," the president said.

"Additionally, we have signed agreements for facilitating trade and Chilean agricultural exports to China, which represent potential for growth and development for our agriculture."

Agriculture Minister Luis Mayol said: "These agreements allow the entry of beef, sheep and goats to the Chinese market and strengthen agricultural trade between the two nations."
