27 July 2016

BRAZIL - Brazil's minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Blairo Maggi, is in the US on a trade mission to enable greater beef trade between the two countries.

The minister is joined by animal health and agribusiness trade representatives from the government, as well as a business delegation.

Brazil already exports processed beef to the US. In 2015, foreign sales totalled US $ 286.8 million. Now, the focus is on fresh and frozen meat. According to Brazil's Secretariat of International Agribusiness Relations, is expected to increase Brazilian exports of US$900 million.

The trip should result in the signing of a sanitary agreement that has been negotiated in recent years, following visits of veterinary inspectors from both countries to each other's slaughterhouses. The agreement is expected to be signed on Thursday 28 July.
