China Gives Green Light to Chile Red Meat

CHINA – Trade officials have finalised a deal opening the Chinese market for Chile frozen beef and lamb, ending two and a half years of negotiations.

The deal was closed on Tuesday by National Director of Agriculture and Livestock Service, Angel Sartori, and Division of Animal Protection Chief, Juan Enrique Moya.

Government establishments and exporters complied with ASQIQ health requirements, then being awarded an export health certificate agreed for the products.

Mr Sartori, delighted at the achievement, said: “It realises the seriousness with which we work the agriculture and livestock service. Opening the Chinese market is a recognition of good performance.”

Trust for the service is now on international level, offering vast opportunities for growth, he added, which is how the ministry of agriculture can support industry.

A Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is already in place, lifting agricultural and forestry exports to China from $427 million to $2,415 million last year, including a 15 per cent lift on 2013. China imported 282,891 tons of beef in 2014, from the main trading partners of Australia, Uruguay and New Zealand.
