Peruvian Livestock Sector to Get Aid With Genetics and Water24 July 2014
PERU – An ambitious programme to improve Peruvian farm profitability through bovine genetic improvement has been announced by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Higher incomes for family farmers are the aim of the programme, targeted at upland operations, via 1,000 million Peruvian Nuevo sol for investing 1,500 metres above sea level.
This year a further 200 million N sol is to be directed towards upland hill farms.
The programme also includes an irrigation package allowing intensive use of pastures by reducing limitations on water supply to crops.
