Marin Sun Farms from San Francisco is reported to have made a bid for Rancho Feeding Corp based in Petaluma, California.

Rancho Feeding Corp was forced to recall nearly 9 million pounds of beef products because they had been produced from diseased and unsound animals and without federal inspection.

According to a report in the Los Angeles Times Marin Sun Farms expects to close a deal on a two acre plant and lot that belonged to the now defunct Ranch Feeding.

The report says the deal emphasises the rising demand for grass-fed locally raised beef.

The investment is expected to be worth several millions of dollars and the plant will need to be upgraded.
