UK - Meat quality and hygiene regulations will come under the spotlight at the EBLEX Processor Conference.

Texas A&M University’s head of meat science professor Jeff Savell will give an insight into current issues which the American meat industry is focusing on at the free event on 6 March in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire.

Forthcoming changes to EU and UK meat hygiene regulations are also due to be examined by Javier Dominguez, deputy veterinary director of the Food Standards Agency (FSA). It will include a discussion on the modernisation of the current meat inspection system, covering feedback of rejection data to aid health planning on farm.

A presentation about EBLEX’s work on cut developments will be featured by head of trade marketing Mike Whittemore, with delegates given the opportunity to taste and give feedback on new steak cuts over lunch.

Technology to improve health and welfare is due to be highlighted by Pionics business unit manager Patrik Buholzer, while Carne Technologies’ founding partner Nicola Simmons will discuss electrical inputs and the impact on meat quality. Two question and answer sessions will also be held.

Dr Phil Hadley, EBLEX senior southern regional manager, said: “Our inaugural processor conference in 2012 proved very popular with delegates as a platform to discuss key industry issues. This year’s event will again provide them with the ideal opportunity to examine pressing matters in the processing sector.”
